ABOUT ADBLUE SYSTEMS

Purpose and operating principle of AdBlue
Many modern diesel vehicles are equipped with an AdBlue system. This system has different names: for example, on Mercedes, it is called BlueTEC; on Peugeot vehicles, it is called BlueHDI; on VW vehicles, it is part of Bluemotion, and so on. AdBlue helps reduce the amount of NOx (nitrogen oxides) in the exhaust gases of diesel vehicles. The system generally consists of the following components: an AdBlue tank, a heating system, a pump, an injection nozzle for spraying the reagent, an NOx sensor, an additional catalytic converter, and an AdBlue control unit. Operating principle. Exhaust gases, after being cleaned in the diesel particulate filter, enter the AdBlue system, where the nozzle sprays the required amount of reagent into the exhaust gases. The gases then pass through the catalytic converter, where the cleaning process is accelerated thanks to the reagent, resulting in exhaust gases with minimal NOx content. Please note that the AdBlue system has nothing to do with the cleaning of the diesel particulate filter; it is a separate component of the exhaust system and does not affect the operation of the particulate filter. Confusion arises because some vehicles have a separate injection system of a special reagent (such as EOLIS) to reduce the burning temperature of the particulate filter. But, to repeat — AdBlue has nothing to do with this.
Problems with AdBlue

Despite the fact that the principle of operation of the system looks quite simple, the system itself is not reliable. Due to the presence of a large number of components, the system is very “capricious” and easily fails even due to weather conditions. The most common problems are heating failure, AdBlue freezing and system damage, failure of the injector, NOx sensor, pump, and AdBlue system control unit. The system on Mercedes cars (BLUETEC) is especially capricious. The worst part is that if even one component of the system fails, the entire AdBlue system stops functioning and a warning appears on the instrument panel about limiting the number of engine starts or the remaining mileage until the ability to continue driving is completely blocked.

SOLUTION OPTIONS for PROBLEMS WITH THE ADBLUE SYSTEM

Repair of failed components

Professional repair requires a professional approach. The AdBlue system has a large number of components. It is important to make high-quality diagnostics in order to accurately identify the faulty component, as well as find the cause of its failure. After repair, it is necessary to reset and adapt the system. We offer a full range of these works. When making repairs, it is worth considering that the components of this system are quite expensive and even when new original parts are installed, their service life in an aggressive environment (salt and various reagents on the road) is not very long.

Complete shutdown of the AdBlue system and its components

The second solution to the problem is to completely disable this system. This is the most popular method of solving the problem. It has a number of advantages: firstly, you will forever get rid of the need to repair the system or its components. Secondly, you no longer have to fill up AdBlue. Thirdly, you will never find yourself in a situation where, if the system fails, you will not be able to continue driving your car until the problem is fixed. The downside is that the car will become less “environmentally friendly”, although in fact this system was installed more to increase the cost of servicing your car than for environmental purposes. Regarding the technical inspection, the occurrence of any problems is excluded (subject to a high-quality AdBlue removal method). The components will not be dismantled and will perform a “decorative” function, no longer participating in the work and not causing any problems. With this method, it is necessary to perform a high-quality software part in order to permanently remove the system and its components from the engine control unit.

By contacting us, you can be sure of an excellent result and the absence of problems, regardless of the chosen method of solving the problem.
