All modern diesel and gasoline cars are equipped with catalysts (catalytic converters). Their purpose is to clean exhaust gases from elements such as CO/CH.
Problems with Catalyst

The service life of the catalyst specified by the manufacturer is 150 thousand kilometers, and it should not cause problems if used correctly. But often problems arise at mileage of 80 thousand or even less. Why is this happening? There are several main reasons:

  • Physical wear and/or destruction.
  • Poor quality fuel.
  • Engine malfunction.
  • Hit oil into the exhaust system.

It is important to take into account the main factor - the catalyst cannot work indefinitely, because under the influence of temperature and other undesirable factors, such as the entry of oil or unburned fuel into the exhaust system, it is destroyed.
